Online Scammers Getting Tougher to Identify, Claim Victims

April 14, 2025 – Online Safety Desk

One Tinder user recently posted a warning after coming close to falling prey to a highly advanced romance scam. As per the person, the scammer—representing himself as a possible love interest—made conversation for more than a week, even making a video call and sending images that withstood reverse image tests.

No Obvious Red Flags—Until There Were

The victim, who prefers anonymity, reported that the scammer’s profile looked genuine. “There were no giveaway signs—no recycled photos, no strange AI bugs,” they reported. Subtle hints in her message behaviors and hesitance to provide personal information later piqued suspicions.

Cryptocurrency Mention Triggers Alarm

The scam was evident when the woman suddenly changed the topic to cryptocurrency investment and said she was making good returns through day trading. Realizing the red flag, the user instantly blocked and reported her.

A Cautionary Tale for Others

“I’m upset that I wasted my time,” the victim confessed, “but at least I got it before anything was done to it.”

They hope that their experience will be a reminder to others: remain vigilant, even when all seems real.

Be safe and think twice about investing—or trusting—online.
